From a two-director firm started by husband and wife James and Rebecca O’Donnell in 2015, O’Donnell Solicitors has grown significantly over recent years to become a firmly established name in North West legal services.
Our firm now has six Directors and over 25 staff in total, all working together to deliver the exemplary service our clients have come to expect from us.
Our ethos centres around delivering straight-talking legal advice. We recognise that each and every legal matter we deal with is important to each individual client. Every time a client instructs us, we know that they are placing their trust in us. It is for this reason that our team are always striving to better themselves and the service we offer.
Working with Our Solicitors
We have taken great care to create a modern, welcoming environment for our clients to visit us. Our three office locations in Uppermill Village and Grasscroft offer convenience to visiting clients. We are also able to offer clients online appointments as and where they prefer. In some cases, we are able to deliver our entire service remotely at the request and convenience of clients.
O’Donnell Solicitors and the Community
We endeavour to play an active part in the local community we work in, employing local people and supporting small, deserving charities and grassroots sports teams in our community.
We are proud of the reputation our firm has attained in a relatively short period of time and believe this is a testament to the way in which we operate our firm and treat our clients, developing long-lasting relationships with clients locally, throughout the North West and beyond.
Corporate Social Responsibility
As a firm, we recognise that our role in the community is not just to deliver high quality legal advice and act as a good employer, but also to build, nurture and retain long lasting relationships with other groups and charities within the local area. Our objective is to assist charities where possible by organising and taking part in events which raise money and awareness of worthy causes and the invaluable work which charities and other similar groups do.
As a local employer many of our staff live locally and as a result, we are embedded In our community. We support our local sports clubs, many of which our staff are active members of. We have been proud to sponsor Mossley AFC Running Club, Mossley AFC Football Club, Uppermill Cricket Club, Greenfield Cricket Club and many grassroots football and rugby teams. We encourage and support our team to be Involved In the community which we serve and we actively take up voluntary trustee posts with charities and governorship posts with community schools locally.
We strive to conduct our firm and make decisions for our business In the most environmentally friendly way. We ensure we do not unnecessarily print, we only print In black and white unless essential and we also recycle our confidential waste. We re-cycle throughout our offices and also look and opt for the most environmentally friendly options when making Improvements throughout our buildings. We have Installed water cooling towers to minimise the use of single use plastic and keep the use of air conditioning units to a minimum.
We are aware that the steps we can take as a firm to minimise our impact on the environment are constantly evolving and we aim to adapt and encourage change for the better of the planet where better practice is discovered.
To give focus to our fundraising activities, every year the firm chooses a local charity/charities to work with. Throughout the year, our team both organise and participate in fundraising events and activities in aid of our chosen beneficiary charities.
For 2022, our charities of the year are Oldham Mountain Rescue and George’s Den. We have a variety of fundraising events planned to take place throughout the year in support of these two deserving causes, including our fundraising Golf Day and various sporting challenges!
Alongside this, we continue to support local sports clubs, groups and by offering general help and sponsorship where possible.
Oldham Mountain Rescue is a voluntary organisation whose objective is “to save life and alleviate distress, primarily in upland and mountain areas.” Funded almost entirely by generous public donation, Oldham Mountain Rescue Team was formed in 1964 and is one of around 53 volunteer mountain and cave rescue teams providing a search and rescue service to help people in difficulties in the wild and remote places of England and Wales.
Oldham Mountain Rescue has a dedicated team of 50+ volunteers, who provide a professional rescue service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
In addition to mountain rescue and search activities, the team is available as a back up for the ambulance and fire services at busy times, during severe weather, major incident or where our specialist skills are needed.
George’s Den is a small, local project to create a new recreational space for young people at Baden House in Mossley. Founded in memory of 13 year-old George Butterworth-Sice, who lost his life to Leukemia in 2021, the charity is driven by the 1st Mossley Scout Group, a group that George was a big part of during his life.
The initial aim of the charity is to raise funds to redevelop the headquarters of the scout building in the basement of Baden House, Mossley, creating a “safe space” for teenagers featuring a snug and a pool table amongst other entertainment. Focused on what is important to young people, the charity will be aiming to provide pop up sessions in various locations, offering one-off events in the local area such as gaming, art, drama and more.
