Why Are Family Court Fees Increasing?
The Ministry of Justice has announced further increases to court fees across England and Wales, with the new fees coming into effect on 13 July 2026. The Government has stated that the increases are intended to reflect inflation and help recover some of the costs of operating the His Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals System.
Which Family Court Fees Are Changing?
The changes in relation to Private Family Law Proceedings are as follows:
- The court fee for filing a divorce application will increase from £612 to £628.
- The court fee for an application for a Financial Remedy will increase from £313 to £321.
- The court fee for an application for a Financial Consent Order will increase from £60 to £62.
- The application fee for a Child Arrangements Order (C100) will increase from £263 to £270. This fee also applies to Specific Issue Orders and Prohibited Steps Orders.

Whilst the increases are relatively modest, they will affect both those commencing family law proceedings and those with ongoing applications before the Court.
Can You Get Help with Family Court Fees?
If you are on a low income or receive certain benefits, you may not have to pay the full court fee. The Government’s Help with Fees scheme allows those eligible to apply for a full or partial refund of court fees. If you think you may qualify, it is worth checking your eligibility before submitting any application to the Court.
