The local area.
Greenfield is a village in Saddleworth situated at the southern edge of the South Pennines. It is home to four reservoirs, Greenfield, Yeoman Hay and Dovestones, all linked to each other, and the highest artificial reservoir in England, Chew.
Greenfield is known as being the only place in the Saddleworth area with a railway station – since the last station on the Oldham Loop Line closed in 2009. You can catch trains to Manchester, Leeds and Huddersfield from here.
Need somewhere to stay in Greenfield? Then head to the family-run Well-i-Hole Farm Caravan and Camping site, situated in a picturesque valley offering spectacular views of the surrounding area. This quiet caravan site attracts visitors and holiday-makers from all over the UK.
There are plenty of sights to see in Greenfield, as it sits on the edge of the Peak District and features the Dove Stones and Chew Valley Reservoir, which are always busy with walkers. The Huddersfield Canal also runs through Greenfield. This canal was abandoned in 1944 but reopened in 2001 after a massive restoration project was undertaken using funding from the Millennium Commission, English Partnerships and other sources.
If you’re into music, then Greenfield is the place to be! Not only is there a brass band club – the Boarhurst Band Club – based here, but the Saddleworth Show and WelliFest also take place annually to raise money for charities in the local area.
More into sports than music? Greenfield has plenty to offer! Tame Valley Tennis club, the Saddleworth Golf Club and Greenfield Cricket Club are based here.
