The local area.
The village of Grasscroft, in the parish of Saddleworth, is historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire. The Harrop family owned the village in the late 18th century and introduced the production of textiles, which is reflected in many local buildings. There is also a conservation area centred on Clough lane, covering what are thought to be some of the oldest buildings in Saddleworth.
Grasscroft is home to Kevin Sinfield, the former professional rugby player and defence coach for the England national rugby union team. He has raised more than £7 million for charity, specifically to help raise awareness of MND, which his close friend Rob Burrow, a former Rugby League player, was diagnosed with in 2019.
This is not Grasscroft’s only claim to fame. The main pub in Grasscroft, the Farrers Arms, is owned and run by former Hollyoaks and Emmerdale actor Rob Norbury. He also owns Muse Restaurant in Uppermill.
