Cohabitation Solicitors
Family Law Services
Couples who live with each other outside of marriage are on the rise, both in same-sex and heterosexual relationships. If you are contemplating living with someone then you should consider whether you have any assets that require protection.
The rights of unmarried couples are completely different to married couples. There is no concept of ‘common law’ husband and wife. Accordingly, there can be some very harsh financial consequences if your relationship ends and no agreement relating to each other’s financial contributions has been made.
O’Donnell Solicitors are ideally placed to advise you in relation to your rights as a cohabitee. Our team of expert family law solicitors can advise you on Cohabitation Agreements and other preventative measures you can take to protect yourself in the event that your relationship ends.
If you have already separated from your partner, you may be able to claim a share of your former partner’s assets and seek financial provision for your children under the Children Act. Alternatively, your former partner may be seeking a share of your financial assets, which you may want to defend. Where long-term partners separate, it can become extremely complicated, especially where property or other significant assets are involved.
As such, it can be difficult to remain calm and composed during financial negotiations, which is where the advice from our solicitors becomes invaluable.
Our Solicitors are accredited by Resolution to act for clients in relation to cohabitation matters.
