It is important that you take early legal advice to ascertain if your Islamic Marriage is recognised in the jurisdiction of England and Wales. There are different financial consequences as to whether the marriage is recognised or not as the law is very different if you have a valid marriage compared to unmarried parties if your marriage is not recognised. There are additional procedures to obtain an Islamic Divorce (Talaq).
There could be other options open to you if you did not divorce such as Judicial Separation or Annulment which can still trigger financial claims
