On the 15th June 2017, James O’Donnell, Anthony Jones and Suzzanne Gardener ran the first leg of the Tour of Tameside 2017, a 4-day running event across Tameside. The run, an X-Trail 10k began in Park Bridge Country Park and finished in Daisy Nook Country Park.
There was a great turn out at the event, including a sea of orange Mossley Running Club runners, a club which O’Donnell Solicitors are proud sponsors of. The race began flat before a sharp incline to test our stamina and then a long flat straight disused railway, before heading under Ashton Road to take on the second section in Daisy Nook Country Park. There were a few steady inclines throughout the route and just past the 9k mark, several sets of steps, both up and down added to the challenge. It was a great achievement for James, Anthony and Suzzanne to cross the finish line, in the knowledge that one race has now been completed with three to go.
There was a fantastic atmosphere throughout the event and many local residents and supporters were out on the route cheering on the runners. The marshals and stewards did a great job at ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all involved in the event.
The Tour of Tameside continues over the next three days. This evening (16th June) James, Anthony and Suzzanne will take on the infamous ‘Hell on the Fell’ route which involves a 6-mile race with a long steep climb of four/five miles and a steep descent to the finish behind Copley, Stalybridge. With no recovery time only overnight, the Hero Half Marathon takes place tomorrow morning (17th June) with a 13.1 mile run along the Longendale Trail near Padfield Glossop and the final run on the 18th June is a 7-mile route through Hyde town centre and the surrounding area.
James, Anthony and Suzzanne are running for the 4 consecutive days to raise money for local charity Maggie’s Oldham, a charity who offer help and support to those affected by Cancer. Maggie’s opened a brand-new Centre in the grounds of The Royal Oldham Hospital earlier this month to support those in the local community.
